He steadily pulled away from Johanna Long, who
finished second, followed by Steven Davis, Hal Martin and Shain
Cheney.
“It’s easy when you get out front,”
Carlson said. “I had a great car tonight.”
Long was on the pole for the start and pulled
ahead as the green flag waved. But Brandon Odom, who was second
in points and won the previous race, was spun out on the frontstretch
and hit the wall hard.
That forced a restart and Carlson snuck under
Long when the green flag dropped for the second time.
“I was trying to go high to hold (Hal)
Martin and I didn’t think Carlson would get such a good
run off the bottom,” said Long.
Long had a scare on Lap 13 when she had to slow
to avoid hitting a lapped car. Davis almost caught her, but she
was able to keep second place.
“I thought he was going to stay high, but
he drove down on me,” Long said.
Meanwhile, Carlson maintained a comfortable lead
for his first victory of the season at the track.
“When you’re out front, you just
gotta stay smooth, save the tires and don’t press the car
too hard,” Carlson said. “I was really taking it easy,
just cruising.”
Martin and McMullen, who ran fifth most of the
race, spun crossing the finish line at the end of the race and
Cheney slipped past McMullen for fifth.
Randy Thompson took the checkered flag for his
fourth straight Sportsman feature victory, but lost it when his
car was disqualified in postrace inspection.
Tina Davidson started third and took the lead
on the opening lap. She stayed in front until a two-car wreck
brought out the caution flag on Lap 8.
On the restart, Thompson slipped underneath her
going into Turn 2. They stayed side-by-side for a lap until Thompson
pulled ahead on Lap 9. Willie Kitchen followed Thompson past Davidson.
Kitchen was awarded the victory, while Davidson finished second.
Pete Kitchen won his third consecutive Bomber
feature.
He took the point after one lap when leader Rocky
Boyd pitted with mechanical problems. Michael Kitchen was second
and Daniel Webber third.
Scotty Anderson led all 25 laps to take his second
Super Stock feature of the season.
He started second and passed Allen Pierce on
the opening lap and never looked back. Points leader Brandon Harris
finished second, passing Pierce with six laps left. Pierce was
third, followed by James Kimbrough.
