Summer Vacation Fun Begins at the Viper Series
For Trey Mitchell

Wimberley, TX 5/12/08- Most college students around the country this week are ending a semester of schooling and preparing plans for the summer just ahead. The same is ahead for nineteen-year-old Trey Mitchell, a freshman at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, but for him plans probably won’t include trips to the beach or time spent out on the lake. Instead, Mitchell’s summer fun will be competing for the Viper pro late model series track championship at the South Alabama Speedway in Opp, Alabama.

The second of the four round mini series will take place this weekend with a 100 lap shootout to decide the halfway championship points leader. For Mitchell who came away with a solid fourth place finish in the opening race the possibilities of him being in that position are very high.

“Being in the points lead is always in the back of your mind but I think since this is just a four race series it kind of changes things a bit. It makes every race count just that much more so there is a lot of pressure to run well every race. Plus with the stiff competition your competing against I am not sure running in the top ten every race will give you a shot at winning the title. As a team and a driver I have to focus on each race individually and not even think about points,” stated Mitchell.

In the series first race Mitchell ran a hard fought race where he brought home his #47 in fourth place after having to battle from the back on two different occasions. Short track racer turned crew chief Freddie Query will once again be calling the shots from atop the box and feels that Trey is just on the brink of capturing his first pro late model victory of his young career.

“Trey is as hard working of a driver as they come. He has taken every chance he has had to be here in the shop working on this car to make it better. I know juggling final exams and turning wrenches can be tough on you because I’ve done it a few times myself but Trey has handled it well. I know that it’s only a short time before he breaks into the win column and a track like South Alabama would be a pretty good place to do it,” added Query.
